Kano Residents Witness Eclipse Of The Moon Moon

The ancient city of Kano on Wednesday night witnessed a total eclipse of the moon, causing restiveness among some residents as the city was plunged into three hours of total darkness.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the eclipse, which began at about 8p.m, caused the residents to offer prayers to Allah for the moon to come back to normal.
The prayers, which featured verses from the Holy Qur’an, were offered in mosques in supplication to Allah “to make the moon recover from its sickness.”

Malam Nuhu Sulaiman, a Qu’ranic teacher, said: “In the Islamic religion, we believe that the moon is also a servant of Allah, and therefore can fall sick through an occurrence like this eclipse”.

“When we see it fall sick, we are enjoined to pray for its recovery.’’

NAN reports that the prayers lasted until about 11 p.m. when the moon regained its shine and brightness, signalling the end of the eclipse, which happens once in several years and the residents returned to their respective abodes thanking Allah. (NAN)
