Collapsed Building Kills 6 In Lagos

Tragedy struck at Mogaji St. in Idumota area of Lagos Island on Tuesday night when a four-storey building collapsed, killing six people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the six bodies were removed from the rubbles on Wednesday afternoon by officials of the National and Lagos State Emergency Management Agencies.

At least, 30 people were rescued alive from the building by the officials.

NAN learnt that the building which went down at about 11. 30 p.m. was inhabited by three families, who lived on second, third and fourth floors while the ground floor was used as stores.

A witness, Kamorudeen Olaseni told NAN that he heard a bang in the form of an explosion as the building gave way.

“I heard a very loud bang like an explosion and immediately I ran out to ascertain what was happening. I saw a thick cloud of dust and I ran inside again,” he said.
