Gov Yari Reinstates Emir, Demotes Incumbent To District Head

Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State yesterday approved the immediate reinstatement of the deposed Emir of Bakura, Alhaji Bello Sani.

The governor also approved the reversion of the appointment of Alhaji Hassan Marafa the incumbent Emir of Bakura as the district head of Damri, a position he held until he was made emir in controversial circumstances.

A statement by the secretary to the state government, Alhaj Hassan Atto said Yari also approved the reinstatement of Alhaji Bello Yusuf as senior district head of Bakura while Alhaji Bello Tinko was asked to revert to his position as district head of Yarkufoji.

It also announced the nullification of the deposition of Alhaji Yahaya Yusuf, a district head of Dambo and his reinstatement in the same capacity.
“In line with the committee’s recommendations, the governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari has approved the annulment of the decision of the immediate past government to depose Ahaji Bello Sani and his immediate reinstatement as Emir of Bakura,’’ the statement added.

The state government had on July 1 set up a committee to review the removal of the Emir of Bakura by the administration of Gov. Mahmuda Shinkafi late last year.

The emir was removed for sundry offences bordering on alleged financial impropriety and disobedience to the state government, which an investigation committee hurriedly tried and found the emir guilty.

Political analysts in the state, however, believe that the emir, who is an elder brother to former Gov. Ahmad Sani Yarima, was dethroned on partisan political grounds.

Also, it is reported that since the elevation of Alhaji Hassan Marafa as the Emir of Bakura by Shinkafi as a result of the deposition of Yarima’s brother, he was not presented with a staff of office to mark the climax of enthronement (NAN).
