NDIC Closes CPC Accounts In Oceanic, Mainstreet Banks

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), yesterday, closed accounts belonging to the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in both Oceanic Bank and Mainstreet Bank, formerly Afri Bank.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the NDIC officials visited the banks in Abuja and closed the accounts on grounds that it was based on “orders from above.”

The CPC’s Chieftain, Alhaji Buba Galadima, who disclosed this during an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP yesterday said: “The NDIC officials visited the banks and closed the accounts. They said it was an order from above.”

Galadima further confirmed to LEADERSHIP that a total of N13 million was in the two accounts as at when they were closed by the officials.

Though as to why the NDIC would take such actions against the major opposition party in the country could not be ascertained, efforts to get response from the NDIC proved abortive as at press time.

Phone calls put through to the NDIC’s Head, Public Relations, H.S Birchi, was not answered, just as a text message sent to him was also not replied to, as at the time of filling this report.
