I Regret My Actions – Enyeama

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama has apologised for the incident that led coach Samson Siasia to drop him.
The Lille shot stopper was alleged to have instigated a player revolt against the team’s travel plans to Madagascar last week and so did not feature in the matches against Madagascar and Argentina.

?

Enyeama, along with several other players, demanded that the Eagles fly on a bigger aircraft and directly to Antananarivo, rather than the chartered flight that would stopped over in Congo Brazzaville.

Coach Samson Siasia promptly wielded the big stick and dropped Enyeama for the matches against Madagascar and Argentina.
However, in a written statement made available to MTNFootball.com, Enyeama has tendered an unreserved apology to his coach, the Super Eagles as well as Nigerian fans for what he described as “a misunderstanding”.

“I apologise to the coach, Samson Siasia, my team mates, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and all Nigerian fans of which I am one who were focused on the big game in Madagascar,” the statement read in part.

“I will also try and apologise to the coach privately later in the week so that he knows my apology is sincere.”
The country’s first-choice goalkeeper said his concerns about the team’s travel plans were “completely misunderstood”.
“I was just trying to communicate my concerns about our travel arrangements at the time and was completely misunderstood. I certainly didn’t intend to distract the team,” Enyeama said.

?

“I’ve always known who the captain of the Super Eagles ship is.
“This was all a big distraction and I would like for us to come together as a big family and move on. I am a cheerful, easy-going person and this incident should be left in the past where it belongs. I am now at peace and hope everyone can also move on.”
In Enyeama’s absence, Dele Aiyenugba kept goal for Nigeria, posting a clean sheet against Madagascar in the must-win qualifier, before he conceded three goals against Argentina complete with world best player, Lionel Messi.
