The Imo State workers has begun an indefinite strike to press home their demand for the state government to effect? the N18,000 minimum wage following the refusal of the state authorities to keep their own side? of the? bargain.

Addressing workers yesterday in Owerri , the state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade R.A. Anyadike, stated that the strike had become imperative following the lackadaisical attitude of the state government to the plight of the workers in the state.
“The organised labour in Imo State is highly disappointed at the level of unseriousness exhibited by government as against the brotherly love and solidarity shown to the Owelle’s? government,” Anyadike lamented.

The leadership of the organised labour in the state, he said, had directed all workers both in the civil, public and private sector to comply with this directive.
He urged all workers, banks and transport workers to adhere strictly to the strike pending when the state government turns a listening ear.

He, however, stressed the labour in the state was willing to continue dialoguing with the state government while the workers are at home.
It would be recalled that Governor Rochas Okorocha had, during the negotiation between the federal government and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) over the minimum wage, promised that his state would be the first in the country to abide by their agreement.
