DFID Reviewing Its Support To INEC —Official

?

The British Department for International Development (DFID) is reviewing its support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the April general elections.
?
Dr Garth Glentwood, the organisation’s Head of Governance, who made this known when he visited INEC on Friday in Abuja, said the review was aimed at ascertaining the impact of its support.
He said the Department was meeting with main actors in the elections to assist it in determining areas of support in future elections. ??
?
“We need to get first hand information from main actors as well as understand the impact of DFID’s support in the 2011 general elections and the way forward in the coming elections”, Glentwood said.
?
Responding, Alhaji Abulkadir Oniyangi, an INEC National Commissioner, who received Glentwood on behalf of the commission’s chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, said DFID’s assistance contributed to the commission’s success in the polls.
?
“What you gave is part of what gave us the success we achieved,’’ Oniyangi said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the team later went into a closed door meeting with the INEC leadership.?
