Lawmaker Lambasts FG’s Posture On Insecurity

?

Member representing Kanam, Kanke and Pankshin federal constituency of Plateau State in the national assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Goa’r has faulted the posture of the federal government towards the insecurity in the country, saying without addressing the problem, efforts of the government towards revamping the economy would be a waste.
?
According to him, “It is time the government tackles the problem head on, considering its implications to the economy and unity of the country.
The lawmaker stated this yesterday while speaking to newsmen in Jos.
?
He said it was high time the Federal Government rose to the occasion and gave the menace the deserved attention. “Presently, there is no part of this country without its share of the insecurity problems; it is like Nigeria is under a siege.
“Those behind the uncivilized act must be fished out and punished, there is no way we can push for economic reform or talk about vision 2020 and NEPAD amidst chaos and insecurity and expect good result. ?It is high time we realise that peace is prerequisite to development”, he said.
?
Hon. Goa’r said the ongoing constitutional amendment was needed to address the security challenges facing the country, adding that a situation whereby Governors are called Chief Security Officers of their respective states and lacked the power to exercise such in crisis or difficult situations was not good for the country.
?
He further stressed “It is often said that Governors are Chief Security Officers of their respective states but this is a mere pronouncement because they have no power over security of their states, a typical example is what is happening in Plateau State”.
On the crisis in Plateau State, the lawmaker said without all embracing dialogue, it would ?be difficult to get to the root of the problem and condemned a situation whereby some of the stakeholders were not committed to dialogue.
