Kuje Chairman Seeks Recognition For Traditional Rulers

The chairman of Kuje area council, Mr. Danladi Zhin has called for the recognition of traditional rulers in the country as a mark of respect for indigenous cultures and tradition of Nigerians.

Zhin who made this known to newsmen at a workshop on capacity development for traditional rulers, organised by Laurels Consult Limited in collaboration with the management of the area council lamented that traditional rulers were not carried along
in the polity of the country.

The area council boss who presented vehicles to 20 traditional rulers on the occasion, also berated politicians, who he said only recognised the importance of the traditional rulers during electioneering campaigns campaigns and elections, and dumped them afterwards.

“That is why this administration thought it wise to organise a seminar for the traditional rulers, that even those things that they already know as districts heads, they will be taught more so that they will know their boundary in terms of their responsibilities.
“They are also enlightened on the need to know that all government projects sited in their various communities are in their hands for them to protect as it has been discovered that some of our traditional rulers look at government projects as government affairs, which is not supposed to be,” he said.

Zhin further stated that the distribution of vehicles to the districts heads was to enable

them have free movement to be able to give the area council feedback on what is happening in the communities, even as he stressed their importance to the sustenance of peace and order in the society.

During the event, the chairman also presented five wheelchairs to disabled persons in the area council.

The chairman of districts heads in the area council, Bale Jibril Aboki, commended the chairman for recognising the importance of traditional rulers to the development of the society and assured of the support of the district heads.
