Cop Killed in Osun Bank Raids

One person was feared dead yesterday when some unidentified gunmen invaded four banks in Iwo town in Iwo local government area of Osun State and carted away millions of naira.
It was gathered that the armed robbers invaded the town at about 10:00 am and started shooting sporadically to scare passersby and residents of Oke-Odo area of the town where Bowen University of the Nigerian Baptist Convention is situated.

An eyewitness account said that one of the security guards of one of the banks who was sitting opposite the bank when the dreaded robberswho were armed to the teeth opened fire on the police man who died on the spot.
The activities of the hoodlums sent panic and confusion across the town as citizens spread the rumour that the dreadful Boko Haram sect was in the community bombing some locations.

The robbers were able to gain access to the banks, including an old generation financial institution after they had succeeded in using explosives to remove the security doors.
The Police station in Iwo was agog when some residents thronged the station to see what the police are doing to rescue the situation. The son of the late police officer simply identified as Chinedu was wailing and rolling on the ground demanding to see the body of his dead father.

Meanwhile, palpable fear has enveloped the sleepy town as students of the Bowen University were seen making distress call to their parents and guardians informing them of the sad incidents. However,? the vice-chancellor of the varsity, Professor Timothy Olagbemiro, confirmed the robbery attack on the banks located outside the university campus.
In a statement he issued to all staff and students of the school, the VC stated that during the attack, no injury was sustained nor life lost by any staff member or student of the university.

The state commissioner of police, Mr. Olusegun Solomon confirmed the incidents while noting that the police were on top of the situation and would soon bring the perpetrators to book.
