Security Agents Neglected – Shekarau

Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, the former governor of Kano State, has called on the Federal Government to promote the welfare of security operatives to enable them to brace up to the challenge of insecurity ravaging Nigeria. ?

?

Shekarau, who was the presidential candidate of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the April 2011 election, made the call on Friday, while speaking at the maiden convocation of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin. ?

?

He stressed the need for the country’s leaders to fund security agencies adequately, while ensuring appropriate application of security funds. ?
“The security agents in Nigeria are not well taken care of, when compared with the enormous duties they discharge. They are not well equipped to combat crime, while no provision is made to take care of their families”, he said. ?

?

Shekarau said that the policy of paying salary to security operatives, three months after recruitment, was faulty, adding that the practice tended to encourage corrupt practices among them. (NAN)
