Nyako Tasks Royal Fathers Over Peace

Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako has tasked traditional rulers to take advantage of the responsibilities of their positions to preach the gospel of peace to their subjects regardless of their tribal, ethnic or religious affiliations.

This was even as he attributed the recurrent crises in the northern part of the country as well as the country at large to the inability to entrench an enabling environment that would bring about sustained peace at all levels of governance.

Nyako who expressed regret at the way and manner things have degenerated in the country said, “I pity the younger generation, even my kids future is bleak, but our traditional rulers have a great role to play in sustaining peace.

“If an Emir or a chief ordered his people to clean their environment, it will be cleaned thoroughly and likewise if they tell them to eschew bitterness with every sense of sincerity, they will.”Admiral Nyako

He stated this at the weekend in Kaduna while fielding questions from Journalists shortly after attending the emergency meeting of the 19 Northern States’ Traditional Rulers in Kaduna.

Nyako said that the essence of the emergency meeting was to discuss the security challenges as well as to discuss the role of the traditional rulers in the maintenance of law and order that would bring about a sustained peace in the country.

“Nigerians need to hasten every necessary process that will ensure the sustenance of peace, an effort that should be collective or we will be doomed,” he said.

Nyako who expressed his support for a constitutional role for Emirs and Chiefs said that it must be on issues that would further enhance the sustenance of peace at all levels.

As Nigeria approaches the 51st independence anniversary, Governor Murtala said, there was the need to pray for ourselves and the peace of the country at large.
