SIM Card Registration Ends Today – NCC

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has advised mobile phone subscribers to ensure they registered their SIM cards as the registration ends today.

NCC Head of Media, Mr Reuben Muoka, gave the advice yesterday in Abuja, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He warned that those that failed to register their lines would be blocked by the commission.

“The SIM registration exercise is an avenue to reduce crime rate in our society and also give the subscribers proper identification,’’ he said.

A NAN correspondent that visited some of the registration centres in Abuja, reported that there was massive turnout of people to beat the deadline.

Rabiat Abdulazeez, who registered subscribers at Area 10 Complex, said that the turnout of people for registration was tremendous. She said people have been coming out in large numbers, including on Saturdays and Sundays, adding that in a month, “ she registered up to 860 SIM cards.’’

Stanley Ikechuchukwu, another officer engaged in SIM registration at Area 1, said there was large turnout as the end of registration drew near.

He said there were days he registered 120 SIM cards, noting that in a week he registered more than 600 persons.

Some of the residents appealed for extension of the exercise, as most of their relations in the villages had yet to register their SIM cards. They said the registration ought to be a continuous exercise. (NAN)
