The Nigerian Army yesterday reassured Lagos residents that all security agencies in the state were working together to ensure the safety of the state.
General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Major-General Kenneth Minimah, gave the assurance in Lagos while receiving visiting Foreign Defence Attaches/Advisers from 17 countries in his office.

They were at the 81 Division as part of their guided tour of some military formations and civil organisations in Lagos.
Minimah, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, 81 Division, Brig.-Gen. Charles Okoro, urged the people of Lagos not to panic over the rumour of an imminent attack by the Boko Haram sect.

“God forbid that we have any external aggression. Nigeria is surrounded by very friendly countries. It is indeed the least of our worries.
“As for internal security, we are on top of it. All the security agencies in Lagos are on top of the situation. There is no fear, whatsoever, ‘’ he said.
Minimah, however, identified cross-border criminals, area boys and the vandalism of NNPC pipelines as some of the ?challenges facing the formation.

The GOC said that the 81 Division, in collaboration with some sister agencies, was doing everything possible to check all identified flash points in Lagos such as bridges, Mile12 and the Abattoir area in Agege, among others.
Minimah told the visitors that the 81 Division was also contributing officers and men to enhance peace and security in other parts of the country and abroad such as the Niger Delta region and Darfur, the Sudan.
Responding on behalf of the delegation, Commodore Frank Daley, Defence Attaché at the Ghana High Commission, said that the visit was to familiarise them with military formations and civil institutions in Lagos.
Daley said that the visit would also afford them the opportunity to know the problems faced by the organisations and to help to evolve ways to get collaboration and assistance from their various countries.

“We can also advise our various home governments to consider Nigeria for bilateral assistance to some of these institutions,” Daley said.
He noted that all the security agencies they visited in Lagos were well-organised, adding that they were doing well. (NAN)
