Market Rises By N5bn

The bulls upstaged the bears yesterday on the trading floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange(NSE) resulting to a marginal appreciation in market capitalisation by N5billion.
Yesterday, the few price gains recorded by some bluechip companies were enough to push the market indices.

Specifically, the All Share Index rose by 14.029 points or 0.07 from 20,015.63 recorded on Tuesday to 20,029.66 while market capitalisation rose by N5billion from N6,382trillion to N6,387trillion.
On the price movement chart, 23 companies appreciated in price, led by Roads with 4.97 per cent to close at N4.65 per share while First Bank added 4.94 per cent to close at N8.92 per share.

Access Bank gained 4.90 per cent to close at N5.14 per share while NCR gained 4.84 per cent to close at N4.98 per share.
Ikeja Hotel, RedStar Express, Ecobank TransNational Incorporated gained 4.59,4.55 and 4.39 per cent to close at N2.05,N2.30 and N11.65 per share.
Conoil gained 4.12 per cent to close at N34.36 per share while Japauloil added 4.11 per cent to close at N0.76 per share.
UNTL also gained 3.85 per cent to close at N0.81 per share.

However, 25 stocks depreciated in price, as Neimeth Pharmaceutical topped the losers chart with five per cent to close at N0.95 per share. Diamond Bank trailed with 4.99 per cent to close at N3.43 per share. Sterling Bank lost 4.96 per cent to close at N1.15 per share while Dangote Sugar and Berger Paints shed 4.92 and 4.90 per cent to close at N7.35 and N8.92 per share.
Eternaoil lost 4.83 per cent to close at N5.12 per share while Ecobank shed 4.74 per cent to close at N2.41 per share.

Longman shed 4.72 per cent to close at N4.84 per share. Oando dropped 4.72 per cent to close at N20.99 per share.
May&Baker also shed 4.70 per cent to close at N3.04 per share.
With transactions exchanged in 2,300deals, the banking subsector dominated in volume terms with 192million shares worth N934million followed by the insurance subsector which traded 41million units worth N31million.

The information and ?communication technology subsector ranked third with N3.2million.
On the whole, investors exchanged 275.7million shares worth N2.2billion in 4,159 deals.
