Plot To Stop Gov Wamakko Uncovered

A plot to stop Alhaji Aliyu Wammako from contesting the governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2012 in the election to be conducted in six states of the federation was, last week, uncovered by eminent politicians in the State.

Reliable sources told our correspondent in Sokoto that some elements within the party have been holding meetings with a view to ejecting the governor from the party.
The move, LEADERSHIP gathered, was in conjunction with national headquarters of the party to implement an old agreement reached between him and his deputy, Muktari Shagari.

But, PDP secretary, Alhaji Aminu Bello, in a swift reaction, told LEADERSHIP that the state PDP had agreed to endorse Wamakko as their candidate. He added that no agreement was reached within what he called the old PDP and stressed that “we believe in oneness and grass root politics”.

Although, all the local government councils from eastern geo-political zone in the state have come to an arrangement to endorse Wamakko as their candidate but Senator Umar Gada who comes from the zone has shown interest to contest along with the Governor.

Meanwhile, posters of the incumbent Governor has taken over the major streets of Sokoto.

Reacting to the whole situation, a political analyst Alhaji Ahmed Kabiru, told our reporter that for now, “no candidate in Sokoto is strong enough to defeat Governor Wamakko in next year’s March poll “.
