Reps Hold Valedictory Session For Ume-Ezeoke Tuesday

The House of Representatives will on Tuesday next week hold a special session in honour of the late Second Republic speaker and former ANPP national chairman, Chief Edwin Ume-Ezeoke.

Among dignitaries expected at the special session are former speakers, ministers, former clerks of the National Assembly and permanent secretaries.

To allow non-members of the National Assembly to participate in the event, the lawmakers during yesterday’s plenary suspended Order 19, rule 217 of the House Rules.
Meanwhile, the National Burial Committee on the activities marking the burial of the late elder statesman yesterday briefed members of the press on the programme of activities at the National Assembly.

Speaking on behalf of the members of the committee, the family, Enugu State government and friends, Hon Agunwa Anaekwe, who is the chairman of the committee and former speaker of the House of Representatives, said there will be a tribute session on Monday at the deceased’s residence while the body will leave National Hospital for a Holy Mass and the depart to the National Assembly for the valedictory session on Tuesday.

It will thereafter leave for Anambra State where it will lie-in-state and be honoured with a brief valedictory session at the state Assembly complex, Awka.
After a vigil on Tuesday night at his home town in Obiagu village, Amichi town, Nnewi south local government area, the body of the late speaker will be laid to rest after a funeral Mass.?
