Provost Faults ‘Katsina Students’ Unrest

The provost of Yusuf Bala Usaman College of Legal and General Studies in Daura, Katsina State, Dr. Muazu Abdullahi Saulawa, has faulted the recent demonstration by the students, insisting that it was due to management’s tough stance on examination malpractice.

Speaking when he received members of Katsina State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Saulawa described the action of the students as unfortunate, saying that they had been used to destroy the image of the management.

He insisted that the action of the students was a result of measures taken by the management to address examination malpractice.

Saulawa told the committee that the reasons for the students unrest was not tenable as, according to him, the college was provided with water through the construction of boreholes and that the power agency, PHCN, had been providing the college with electricity.

Responding, chairman of the committee, Alhaji Mudasiru Mati who led members to inspect the damaged buildings, assured that the committee would recommend measures to avoid future occurrence.

Students of the college went on rampage to register their discontent overclaiming the alleged failure of the management to provide water and electricity in the campus.
The action of the students, which led to the indefinite closure of the college by the management, prompted state House of Assembly to direct its education committee to assess the damage and investigate the causes of the demonstration.
