The Borno state police command has averted what could have been a Sallah tragedy as it? arrested? a suspected Boko Haram member for allegedly? possessing? a two well packaged Improvise Explosive device proposed to be used as sallah gift to the residents of? Maiduguri.
Parading the suspects to journalists yesterday at the Police Headquarters Maiduguri, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command,?? Mr. Simeon Midenda,? said that in? the efforts of the command to curtail the menace of violent crime in the state,? his men arrested a gang of notorious armed robbery suspects, bank robbery suspect, house/shops breakers, transformer/generator thieves and extortion syndicates.
He said one Sheriff Shettima who was arrested in connection with recent Damboa bank robbery confessed to the police that his gang? robbed the bank in Damboa to raise funds for an operation the gang? proposed to launch in Maiduguri during the coming Eid El-Kabir Sallah celebrations.
The commissioner stated that the suspect also confessed to the police that members of his gang? were the ones that robbed the same bank in Damboa in May this year and the recent one where they killed one Corperal Yahona Ishaya and carted away N22 million and escaped to unknown destination.?
