Chime Orders Arrest Of Persons Building On Roads

Enugu State Governor Sullivan Chime has ordered the arrest of any persons who convert any portions of the roads in the state for their selfish ends.

Chime, who gave the order in Enugu yesterday while inspecting public schools, frowned at the way residents destroyed public utilities in the state.

He was particularly irked at the indiscriminate way residents used portion of asphalt roads as platforms for mixing their cement for the construction of their private houses and other structures.

The governor, who was held in traffic following the construction of a building on Old Airport road in Emene near Enugu, wondered why people should turn the roads to workshops.
“This road was built with meagre resources of the state. It is wrong to mix concrete on asphalt roads because it destroys the road. Just get them arrested,’’ the governor ordered.
He also banned the washing of vehicles on roads, pointing out that the chemicals used for car wash were capable of destroying the road.
