The Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Kaduna State yesterday nullified the election of Dr Ahmad Datti of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and declared former Governor of Kaduna state, Senator Ahmad? Makarfi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as duly elected Senator of Kaduna North Senatorial district.

Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Daniel Kailo, in his judgment , declared Markarfi winner of the election having scored? majority of the recounted valid votes.

In a judgment that lasted for about five hours, the tribunal chairman said: “The recounting of ballot papers was necessary because they were genuine papers brought by INEC officials to the tribunal and as such its genuiness could not be doubted.”

The tribunal noted also that after the recounting of the votes in contention and the differences sorted out, Datti scored 356, 579 votes, while Makarfi polled 364,801 votes.
