TUC Hails CJN Directive On Corruption Cases

The Trade Union Congress (TUC), Rivers chapter, has commended the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Dahiru Musdapher for directing judges, nationwide, to treat all anti-corruption cases within six months.
?

State Chairman of the congress, Mr Chika Onuegbu, made the commendation in a statement given to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Port Harcourt.
?

He said that the new directive would streamline the fight against corruption in the country.
?

He urged the Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) to strictly adhere to the new directive and ensure that the desired goals would be achieved.
?

“It is our hope that CJN and NJC will put everything in place and ensure that this new directive is adhered to.
?

“With this directive, we believe Nigeria will gradually become free from corruption,” he said.
?

Onuegbu noted that corruption was the major impediment to the development of Nigeria and that the new directive would be a boost to anti-graft war.
?

“Corruption is the greatest obstacle to the development of Nigeria, and any move to transform Nigeria without adequate move to reduce corruption will worsen the transformation agenda of the Federal Government.”
?

He appealed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to use the directive as an opportunity to demonstrate to Nigerians that they were truly prepared to fight corruption.
