Waziri Sacked As Lamorde Takes Over As EFCC Chairman

President Goodluck Jonathan has relieved Mrs. Farida Waziri of her job as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

LEADERSHIP gathered that her removal is shrouded in controversy, as her tenure is due to expire by June next year.

Accordingly, the president has approved the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde as the Acting Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the anti-graft agency.

Until he took over as acting chairman of the commission, Lamorde, an officer of the Nigeria Police Force who had served as Acting Chairman of EFCC before Mrs. Waziri assumed duty at the Commission in 2008 was the Director of Operations of the EFCC.

Although no reason was given for the change of leadership baton at the commission, a statement by Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati noted that Lamorde appointment was to take effect immediately.
