Rename UNN After Ojukwu – MRC

The Movement for Revolutionary Change (MRC) has called for the renaming of University of Nigeria, Nsukka as “Odumegwu Ojukwu University (OON)” in honour of the late National Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Describing him as? hero and the last of the titans in Nigerian politics, the MRC said that his death marked the end of a generation of Great Leaders who commanded the followership, respect, and honour of Nigerians.

According to a statement signed by MRC coordinator, Babatope Babalobi and made available to LEADERSHIP at the weekend, Ojukwu’s place in Nigeria’s history stands in the same realm with like minds such as Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Dr Nnamdi Azikwe, and Alhaji Aminu Kano.

“These were remarkable leaders of their people, unlike what we have now in the political space where ‘political liliputians’ who rigged their ways to powers at various levels are claiming statesmanship,” it added.

The MRC also noted that, unfortunately, issues that led to the Nigerian civil war were still very much with us. “Though the civil war has officially ended 41 years ago, there is an ‘unofficial civil war’, whereby the Nigerian State is still silently and programmatically fighting its people through? bad governance? resulting in mass hunger, penury, debilitating disease, joblessness, and distress.”

The MRC, however, expressed the? belief that the Nigerian people would eventually emerge victorious as the impending Nigerian revolution would resolve issues that caused mutual suspicion and acrimony among Nigerian nationalities.
