Amaechi Counsels Convoy Drivers Over Safety

The chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) and the Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amechi has urged convoy drivers to take seriously the work shop organised by Federal Road Safety Commission in conjunction with the 36 States of the federation or consider their jobs terminated.

The NGF chairman stated this yesterday while addressing the drivers of Borno, Adamawa and Taraba states at Taraba Motel in Jalingo Taraba State capital who were in the state to attend a three day work shop for State Governors convoy drivers also called on the governments to sponsor their drivers to the workshops for effective driving on the highways.

Governor Amaechi, who was represented by Philemon Amenda at the occasion, lamented the recent death of the Deputy Governor of Gombe State as a result of motor accident and warned the convoy drivers to acquire the necessary techniques that would enable them to avoid further occurrences of road accidents.

Earlier, the representative of the corps marshal at the work shop, Mr Olakunle Motajo, revealed that FRSC has designed a certificate that would be given to the participants at the work shop and those who did not pass the examination that would be conducted at the end of the work shop would not be allowed to drive in convoys.

Mr Motajo disclosed that it? became necessary for the commission to organise the work shop because of the attitude of some convoy drivers who sometimes behave on the roads as if they were above the law.
