Police Take Over Probe Of Seized Weapons In Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command yesterday commenced discreet investigation into the seizure of a large cache of ammunition by the Oyo/ Osun command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

Findings by LEADERSHIP revealed that the NCS had handed over the suspects arrested by the officers to the detectives for interrogation because of the nature of the crime.

An officer who spoke with LEADERSHIP on the matter yesterday said: ‘’We will get to the root of the crime and, definitely, those behind the ammunition would be unmasked.’’

The Osun/Oyo command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Thursday impounded a bus conveying ammunition into the state, thwarting what looked like an effort by an unnamed group to take the violence in some parts of the country to Ibadan.

Apparently determined to beat the security build-up by the command at various border lines in the state, the alleged owner was said to have concealed 10 cartoons of live cartridges in food items, including yam tubers and rice bags.

Comptroller of the command, Mundu Mohammed, told our reporter that the Toyota/Liteace bus, with registration number Kebbi XA 887 BRK, conveying the deadly weapons, was intercepted at Iseyin/Ayegun border axis of the state.?

He stated further that the bus was immediately impounded while the driver, one Rasak Oluwole, was arrested.
