We Will Fight Corruption To Standstill, FG Assures

The Federal Government has reiterated its determination to address the problem of corruption to ensure the success of its transformation agenda and restore the good image of the country.

Vice President Namadi Sambo made the reaffirmation at a dinner in Abuja on Thursday as part of the ceremony in honour of recipients of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) for 2010 and 2011.

He described corruption in Nigeria as a cancer which had been frustrating government efforts toward improving the quality of life of the people.

He said government would fight “this cancer” to a standstill to ensure progress of the country.

“I want also to seize this opportunity to assure Nigerians that we will fight corruption very seriously. Corruption has been a cancer that has gone into the marrow of this country and Insha Allah we will address it and do away with it in this country.’’

The vice-president said the Federal Government had also resolved to promote science and technical education at all levels of the education system.

He said research and development was one of the government’s key cardinal points under the transformation agenda.

Sambo said the Federal Executive Council had approved the immediate establishment of five specialised universities to boost science and technical education.
