Suleiman Bows Out As Sports Minister

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday gave the nod to the request by Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman to resign from office as Minister of Sports to enable him contest for governorship poll in his state.

A statement by the president’s spokes man, Dr. Reuben Abati noted that the action is to take immediate effect “to afford Suleiman the opportunity to focus fully on the pursuit of his declared political ambition.

“President Jonathan thanks Alhaji Suleiman for his services to the nation and wishes him success in his future endeavours”, Abati stated. Meanwhile, the gubernatorial aspirant yesterday said he will not join issues with anyone in his bid to emerge as the candidate of the party in the forth coming election in the state.

He stated this at the headquarters of the PDP while returning his nomination form for the PDP governorship primary scheduled for December 17 in Sokoto.

Sulieman was responding to comments made by Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, stating that those working against his re-election bid are failed politicians and blackmailers.

However, He refused commenting whether his ambition had received the blessings of President Goodluck Jonathan since he is a serving minister, saying that he would not discuss his boss in the public.

“What I said last time was that the President is my boss and that I will not discuss my boss on canmera era and I still stand by my words,” he said.

When asked if he has resigned his appointment, he said: “If I resigned, it is the presidency that will share that information, not me.”

He however enjoined all members of the party in the state to join hands together and work in peace.
