Police In Rivers Kill 2 Robbers In Military Uniform

Men of the Rivers State Police Command yesterday killed two suspected armed robbers during an exchange of fire with a gang of hoodlums in Gokana area of the State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the hoodlums, numbering about four and dressed in military camouflage, had attacked a petrol service station located in the area at about 5.30 pm and were about to rob the attendants when a Police patrol team arrived the scene.

It was further gathered that the gun battle that ensued between the police and the hoodlums later led to the killing of two members of the gang while others escaped.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, Mr. Benjamin Ugwuegbulem gave the names of the felled hoodlums as Bariyima and Alagba, and said that the duo hail from Bomu community in Gokana area of the State.

Ugwuegbulem disclosed that an AK-47 rifle, which has registration number KO 357401 with four live and five expended ammunition as well as a locally made revolver were recovered from the hoodlums.

He said that investigation into the incident has commend and added that the command would stop at nothing to track down and arrest the other fleeing members of the gang.
