Separate My Wife From Me, Evangelist Tells Court

A 43-year-old evangelist, John Nwodu, has pleaded with a Grade B Customary Court in Alakuko, Lagos, to dissolve his marriage to his estranged wife, Sandra.

The complainant, who owns and oversees a church (name not disclosed) explained to the court that he was no longer interested in Sandra, whom claimed was negligent in her wifely duties.

“Since I knew this woman, I have known no peace. It’s been one sickness after the other. She doesn’t make me happy. She torments my life, she doesn’t assist me in paying the house rent and I have remained the same since I married her,” the evangelist explained.

Speaking in court, he said that he met his wife on October 16, 2008 and got married to her on February 7, 2009. He also alleged that since then, she had not been able to give birth to a child.

“I left some money in the business, although she added her own, but if I ask her for money to pay the house rent, she tells me there’s no money.

He said, “We are living in a self-contained apartment that costs N115, 000 per annum. And she knows I am a full-time pastor. But instead of her to assist me in the payment, she complains of no money”.

Objecting to all her husband has said, Sandra explained to the court that the issue of childlessness in the family was not her fault and that she was medically sound.

“I have gone for medical tests in four different hospitals alone, and most times, when we are to go together, my husband tells me that he doesn’t need any check up and that nothing is wrong with him. He will later tell me that he had gone and the doctor said he is medically okay too”.

She explained that the reason why she didn’t attend his church was that he accused her of being a witch.

“I remember a particular Sunday I dressed up to attend his church but he warned me not to step my feet in the church because I’m a witch and that if I step my feet in his church, the people was scatter and will not come again.”
