PDP Women Protest Exclusion In Registration Exercise

A group of women numbering about 2000 under the aegis of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Women Vanguard, Anambra State, were at the national headquarters of the PDP in Abuja on Thursday to protest what they termed ‘unlawful exclusion of women’ from the recent membership registration exercise held in the state.

In a letter of protest addressed to the national chairman of the PDP and signed by four zonal leaders, Chief (Mrs.) Hephzibah Chika, Dr. Oluchukwu Iroele, Hon Goodluck Ogbogu and Mrs. N. Nwabueze; the group called on the National Working Committee to address the illegality in the state PDP.

Chief Chika, who spoke to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND, said the women were at the PDP office to register their dissatisfaction with the last membership registration exercise in Anambra State.

“During the last registration process, so many Anambra men and women came out en mass to properly register as members of the PDP in the state, but to their greatest shock and surprise, those who have the cards in their custody refused to come out to designated points to register the people, thereby depriving so many women the opportunity to belong to our most beloved party in Anambra State.

“We are the bedrock of any society, we are the foundation on which progress and prosperity grows, we implore you not to deny the women their rights. Anambra PDP will remain in political oblivion for the next decade should we fail to take proper steps to correct this injustice.
