Aviation Safety: Ibom Airport Gets Cordless Land Air Wildlife System

As part of efforts by the Akwa Ibom State government to ensure the safety of passengers and aircraft, a Cordless Land Air Wildlife System (CLAWS) has been installed at the International Airport.
CLAWS is a system that prevents bird strike and wild-life encroachment by scaring away birds and wild-life within the radius of the runway.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, who made this known yesterday during a chat with newsmen, following the recent airlift of Christian pilgrims from the airport to Israel, said the 13-unit equipment,? first complete set in Africa and first operational only in Nigeria, has been installed and is operational at the airport.

Mr. Umanah said, the system which works through a remote operator, brings out the sound of different birds and animals, and by so doing, scares away birds and other wild animals from the airport runway to ensure smooth take-off and landing operations of aircraft.
