Uneasy Calm In Adamawa Emirate As Galadima Resigns

The Galadima of Adamawa, Alhaji Murtala Aminu, has resigned from the Emirate Council and given up the title (Galadima) after 24 years of service. This is just as the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad, is making efforts to end the crisis in the Adamawa Emirate Council.

A source told LEADERSHIP yesterday that there had been a cold war between the new Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, and the Galadima for some time and it has now got to a climax with the Galadima’s resignation.

The Galadima was said to have felt he had had enough insults from the Lamido. His resignation has reportedly been accepted by the Lamido, while the emirate is expected to make a pronouncement tomorrow.

But the Sultan of Sokoto is reported to be unhappy with the development, believing this was not the time for royal fathers in the north to engage in a quarrel.

A source told LEADERSHIP last night, “The Sultan of Sokoto is worried about the situation in Adamawa and has gone as far as raising a committee to immediately intervene and ensure that peace returns to the emirate.”
