Constitution: PAC Lauds FG On Proposed Establishment Of Special Courts

The Progressive Action Congress (PAC) on Friday commended the Federal Government on the proposed establishment of special courts to try corruption cases.
The National Chairman of the party, Chief Charles Nwodo, made the commendation in Abuja, saying the party was strongly in support of the move.

He suggested that judges to be appointed for such courts should be persons with impeccable character and track records of constituency, and should be incorruptible.

“We also believe that such courts must have specified time for trying a particular case just like in the election tribunals.”

“The time span will reduce unnecessary adjournments for cases of corruption.”

“It will also save costs of prosecuting corrupt people and save time for other essential prosecutions to be tackled within the time-frame.''

Onu noted that the courts would deter citizens who formed the habit of looting the nation's treasury thereby impeding the nation's growth.

He therefore, urged members of the National Assembly to engage themselves immediately in the task of creating the proposed special courts and to ensure that the initiative was realised.

The party chairman also called on the federal lawmakers to ensure that all laws related to the establishment of the special courts were put in place in the first quarter of 2012.

“If corruption is not tackled headlong in this nation, the transformation agenda and the MDGs will only end in the drain, and Vision 20:2020 will be a mirage.''
