Keshi Wants Home Eagles To Dethrone Pros

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has charged his wards from the local scene to do all they can and give the foreign professionals a fight. He said he wants them to dethrone the foreign players. Keshi had his maiden meeting with the home-based national team players on Tuesday night after diner and challenged them to prove that they are better than the foreign players.

He promised to stick with them in the qualifiers for the South Africa 2013 Nations Cup and Brazil 2014 World Cup.

The new coach who met with the players at the Bolton Whites Apartment and Suites camp encouraged them to take a cue from him because he started his career in Nigeria before becoming an international star. “At the age of 20, I was already captaining the national team and I did it for 14 years. Any of you here can do it and do it very well. Just put your mind to it and with God we will reach the promised land”.

He promised the players that if they prove to be better than the foreign based in training sessions, he would damn the consequences and use them in matches. He assured them of a new beginning unlike the experiences of the past where they are used as training materials.

He harped on team discipline, warning that visitors, no matter how close will not be allowed into the players, rooms. He said such can only be entertained at the swimming pool side. “I will not quarrel with any player but anyone who flouts camp rules, should pack his bag and leave the camp before I react negatively,” he warned.
