Group Backs Oil Subsidy Removal

As the debate over the planned removal of oil subsidy by the federal government rages on, a group, the Coalition of Patriotic Democrats (CPD), has called on Nigerians to support the plan, describing it as a move by government to free the masses from the grip of a few cabal bleeding the nation dry.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the national coordinator of CPD, Chief Ako Atulomah said no nation could achieve a transformative economic prosperity without a short term sacrifice from its citizens, and urged Nigerians to support the government to stop this ‘fiscal drain-pipe’.

Atulomah further urged Nigerians not to be burdened by unfulfilled promises of our past leaders, but rather task the government to state in concrete terms, what it intends to do with monies from fuel subsidy removal.

He said the group would use its national network to educate Nigerians at the grassroots about the gains of the proposed plan by government.

“We believe that it is in the best interest of this nation for government to reinvest the over N1 trillion to be saved annually from the subsidy fund into creation of jobs, generation of more megawatts of electric power supply, provision of free basic education, national insurance health scheme, rehabilitation of our rail and road transport infrastructure, provision of potable water among others.

We call on all Nigerians to support the federal government in its plan to remove the fuel subsidy,” he stated.
