Rep To FG: Leave Fuel Subsidy, Build Refineries

A lawmaker in the House of Representatives, Hon Abiodun Abudu, has told the federal government to shelve its bid to remove fuel subsidy to a later date when all the refineries will have been put in place so as not to further impoverished the masses.

Abudu made the call yesterday during a media chat organized by the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council.

The lawmaker, who is representing Ogun Waterside, Ijebu North and Ijebu East Federal constituency, said that if the government went ahead with the plan, the people would suffer for an action they knew nothing about.
He said, “We people at the House of Representatives have told Mr President that he should not go ahead with the proposal, but rather he should make all the refineries work before thinking of removing fuel subsidy.

“Mr President has submitted his budget and there is no subsidy. All of us know the position of the law. The National Assembly stands by its earlier resolution on the matter.?

“There will be no fight; there will be confrontation because Mr President himself is a man who believes in the rule of law.”
