Lagos Assembly Stops Ministry From Demolishing Houses

The Lagos State House of Assembly has directed the state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to halt the proposed demolition of houses in Atinporomeh and Araromi in Olorunda Local Council Development Area.

Speaker of the House, Adeyemi Ikuforiji gave this directive yesterday while addressing residents of the area who had come to stage a peaceful protest over the proposed demolition.?

The Speaker who spoke through members representing Alimosho and Badagry Constituencies, Bisi Yusuff and Suuru Avoseh respectively, told the protesters that the House will give the directive to the Ministry to halt the demolition pending when the House? had investigated the matter.

According to the Speaker, “we are all honourable people and we will not do anything illegal, please don’t allow miscreants to hijack this protest from you.

“We want you to go home peacefully and we can assure you that we would make appropriate recommendation,” he said.

Earlier, the spokesperson of the residents, Mr. Unim Samuel, alleged that officers from the Ministry came to their communities in a vehicle with registration number LA 209 A76 and served them documents and also “marked our houses and told us that our houses will be demolished within seven days.

“The ministry officials who came alleged that our communities have been under threat and intimidation from an unknown developer who had always used police to intrude into the communities to demolish our property.

“We are here to stage a peaceful protest and to inform the House about their activities in our communities.
