Technician, 20, Arraigned For Possessing Dangerous Weapons

A 20-year-old technician, Paul Pam, on Friday, appeared before a Jos Magistrates' Court charged with being in possession of dangerous weapons.

Pam was arrested by a police patrol team along Gada-biyu area of Jos with a machete and a knife as he tried to attack some youths.

The accused, who resides at No. 20 Rukuba Road, Jos, appeared before Magistrate Talatu Gada, on a two-count charge of possessing dangerous weapons and inciting public disturbance.

The prosecutor, Mr Ado Ali, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Christmas day at about

2 p.m. when the police patrol team saw him pursuing some youths with the weapons.

He said, “My lord, the police arrested the accused while in possession of the machete and the dagger.

And during police investigation, the accused confessed that the youths he was pursuing belong to a rival group that once attacked him in the Tudun-Wada area of Jos.''

The prosecutor said that the accused committed an offence contrary to section 319(a) and 114 of the Penal Code.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, and said that the police forced him to plead guilty during interrogation at the police station.

Pam begged the court to grant him bail, as he was a first offender.

Gada granted him bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 25, 2012.?
