Katsina Varsity Gets Substantive Vice Chancellor

A new vice chancellor has been appointed for Katsina University- the first Islamic university in Nigeria- He is Associate professor Nasiru Musa Yauri of Usman Danfodio University Sokoto.

Addressing the press shortly after an inaugural meeting of the varsity’s board of trustees, the new board chairman, Alhaji Lawal Kaita said the “board ratified the appointment of Professor Yauri as the substantive vice chancellor.”

Kaita disclosed that the appointment of the new vice chancellor was in consonance with the power conferred on the Board by sections 3(1) and 4 (1) of the first schedule and section 2(b) of the third schedule of the varsity’s law.

According to him, the board also approved the appointment of Alhaji Sani Zangon Daura as the pro-chancellor and Chairman of the institution’s governing council.

Earlier, unveiling Kaita, a former governor of the defunct Kaduna state as chairman of the reconstituted Board of Trustees, chairman of the Katsina Islamic Foundation-owners of the university-, Qadi Ibrahim

Maiangwa said the inauguration followed expiration of the tenure of former board.

Qadi Maiangwa who spoke through Dr Sanni Lugga tasked the board to contribute towards moving the varsity forward and expressed the optimism that the new board “shall excel in moving the university to

further successes.”

Our correspondent reports that the recent appointment of substantive Vice chancellor and constitution of governing council was the first since the varsity commenced academic activities six years ago.
