Boko Haram: 35 Killed, 47 Houses Destroyed In Borno – C’ttee Report

A total of? 35 people were killed, 14 others wounded, while 47 houses and places of worship were destroyed in the Boko-Haram- related violence in some parts of? Maiduguri, the Borno state capital and environs? between July and August last year.

Chairman of the Administrative Committee of Inquiry set up by Borno State government to verify the loss of lives, properties and recommend possible solutions to curb recurrence of the crisis, Barrister Malam Fannami, stated this yesterday.

Presenting a report of the committee to Governor Kashim Shettima at the Government House in Maiduguri, Barrister Fannami also disclosed that during the unrest, two persons disappeared, one detained, 162 shops and business premises burnt down.

The chairman added that the incidents had led to the destruction of 123 vehicles, 70 bikes and24 bicycles.?

According to him, in the course of its investigation, the commission interviewed several victims of the crisis while 498 persons forwarded applications seeking for compensation to cushion their sufferings.

He pointed out that recommendations of the committee were summarily grouped into three comprising immediate and direct monetary assistance to the victims, measures to be taken to quell future occurrence and long term proactive mechanisms that could assist government in tackling the situation.
