Nigerians In UK Protest Over Subsidy Removal

Over 350 Nigerians resident in London, on Friday, protested the removal of fuel subsidy by the Nigerian government.

The group which consisted of students, professionals and friends of Nigerians converged at Nigeria House (the Consulate) from 12.30pm, to demand a reversal of the decision.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the protesters who were in high spirits, sand the national anthem and observed a moment of silence for all Nigerians who had lost their lives in the protest. Afterwards, they sang protest songs in Nigerian languages.

The protesters also signed a register, which was handed over to the consulate officials.

Meanwhile, in a desperate move to stop the nationwide strike declared by the organized Labour yesterday, the federal government drafted over 1000 security operatives to all entrance leading to the eagle square in Abuja.

Nigerians who work at the Federal secretariat were seen being search by the security operatives after identification, before gaining entrance to their place work.

Some of the workers who spoke with LEADERSHIP described the situation as unbearable, “because the whole place looks as if we are in military era, see how we are been policed in a democratic Government”.
