We Are Not Aware Of Court Order – TUC

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has denied being aware of any court order restraining the organised labour from going ahead with its planned nationwide strike scheduled to commence on Monday, January 9, 2012.

The National Industrial Court (NIC) had on Friday, January 6, 2012 granted the plea of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke to restrain the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and TUC from embarking on the planned industrial action.

Chairman of the TUC in Rivers State, Comrade Hyginus Chika Onuegbu told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY yesterday in Port Harcourt that the strike action would go on as planned.

Onuegbu said: “We hereby remind all affiliates of TUC that the strike directive by the joint national executive council of NLC and TUC will hold from Monday January 9, 2012 as planned. We further state that we are not aware of any court judgment directing otherwise.

“Besides, we do not take orders from the TV or newspapers but from the hierarchy of TUC Nigeria. We ask all Nigerians to come out and participate effectively. Together, we shall ensure that the will of the people is respected and implemented.”
