Police Kill Two Robbers, Injured Two Others In Shoot-Out

The Police on Wednesday shot dead two armed robbery suspects in a shoot-out, Mr. Suleiman Abba, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, said.

Abba told newsmen in Port Harcourt?? that the Police also smashed a bomb making syndicate during the operation.

?He said that the armed suspects had fired at the police when they (the suspects) were spotted and that two of them were killed in the ensuing confrontation while two others escaped with bullet wounds.

The commissioner said that one of the suspects, before he died; h ad identified himself as Tochukwu and confessed that the gang had been terrorizing Port Harcourt and its environs.

Abba said the police were combing the nearby bush for possible arrest of the escapees, adding that two locally made pistols and five live cartridges were recovered in the encounter.

He also said that the Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) on surveillance patrol arrested one Ibinabo in the Fruit Market area of the metropolis.

According to him, the suspect led detectives to an abandoned welding workshop at D Line, Port Harcourt, where one AK47 military rifle and two locally made revolver pistols were recovered.

Others weapons recovered included 303 AK47 ammunitions, 60 LAR rifle ammunitions and three magazines.

Abba further said that both the police Anti- Bomb Squad and the Anti- errorist Squad in Port Harcourt arrested one Ikaah on a tip-off.

He said that the suspect was in possession of 14 cartridges of high explosives of 1.25 kilogramme per cartridge, totalling 17.5 Kg, and 19 pieces of non-electric detonators with 100 metres of safety fuse.

The commissioner said investigations would be intensified to discover the sources of the dangerous materials and bring the syndicates to justice.

He said that the police would be more proactive as it was already collaborating with other security agencies to reduce crime in the state
