Sambo Leads Bayelsa PDP Campaign Team, Pledges Victory For Dickson

Vice-President Namadi Sambo has promised to ensure that the Peoples` Democratic Party (PDP) emerges victorious in the Feb. 11 governorship election in Bayelsa.

Sambo, said in Abuja on Thursday at the inauguration of the party`s National Campaign Committee for the election in the state, that the party would carry out intensive campaign to ensure victory.

The Vice-President, is the chairman of the 28-member committee that would lead the party`s campaign team in the state, inaugurated by the Acting National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje.

Sambo, said on behalf of other members of the committee shortly after the inauguration that : “PDP is Balyelsa and Bayelsa is PDP''.

He said: ''by this inauguration, we have taken the oath of what we have continued to do in this nation as a party that will deliver the dividends of democracy to our people.

“As a party that is a listening party, that has the manifesto that will lead this country to become one of the most developed countries in the world, we assure you that we shall deliver”.

He stated that the committee would immediately swing into action, by embarking on serious electioneering campaigns to ensure that the party wins the poll.

Vice-President is expected to formally present the party`s flag to the governorship candidate, Hon. Henry Dickson, at a later date.

Dickson in his remark, promised that party would win the state, adding that his campaign team had started the process of building “cohesion’’ in the party, for the promotion of better understanding and solidarity.

He said: “the PDP is called the Ijaw Peoples` Party because of what the party represents in the state”, stressing that the people would never turn their backs on the PDP.

Baraje, had while inaugurating the committee, expressed optimism that the party would win the election.

He re-emphasised that Dickson was the party`s recognised candidate, having won the primaries conducted in line with the Electoral Act and the constitution of the country.

He added that Diskson was elected by all PDP members in Bayelsa.

“We in PDP choose candidates in accordance with the wishes of the people, we do not force our candidates on people.

“We conducted our primaries in line with the guidelines of PDP and with very close reference to the constitution of our party’’, Baraje said.

He added that the primary was: “clean, clear, free and credible'', adding that nobody was excluded in the process.

Members of the committee are Senate President, David Mark, Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Tony Anenih and Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers.

Others include, Hajia Inna Chiroma, Prof. Rufai Alkali, Chief Edwin Clark and all Governors, Senators and House of Representative members from the South-South geo-political zone.

Former Gov. Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and Chief Timi Alaibe are also members of the committee, while Mr Oloshola Oke, the party`s National Legal Adviser would serve as the committee`s secretary.
