PDP Panel Cancels Election In 3 Wards In Cross River

The PDP Electoral Panel for Delegates Election in Cross River has announced the? cancellation of elections in three wards due to irregularities.

The Chairman,? Mr Mohammed Wakil, stated this in Calabar? while briefing the media on the progress of the just concluded ward delegates election.

Wakil said the cancellation of the election became necessary in order to ensure transparency and due process.

“Inline with our promise of transparent process, we have decided to cancel results in three wards.”

According to him, the three wards include Iko ward in Akamkpa Local Government Area, Idomi ward in Yakurr and Igede in Yallah Council areas.

He further said that the panel was satisfied with the election of 579 delegates in the 196 electoral wards of the 18 local government areas.

The chairman pointed out that the panel had not received any petitio, adding that the remaining nine delegates would emerge from the wards where elections were cancelled later.

The ward delegates’ election was held to elect adhoc delegates for the forthcoming governorship primaries slated for Jan. 23, 2012.

The incumbent Governor, Sen Liyel Imoke and Amb. Sunny Abang are the two aspirants for the position.
