Murder: Protest Rocks Delta Community Over Slain Monarch

The people of Obi-Yiama, Abavo Clan, Ika South Local Government Area f Delta State are protesting the gruesome murder of the community’s head, The Eleme of Obi-Yiama, Chief Amenaghanwon Chinyem by persons said to have been hired by his enemies in the community over communal crisis in the last one year.

The protesters, reports said, last Friday, took to various streets in the community with placards which reads: “We demand justice, equity, and fair-play in the gruesome murder of our king, “We want police to properly investigate those involved and arrested, especially those who pride themselves to be above the law”.

As it were, the police authorities had disclosed that six persons,? including a prime suspect, one Chief Joseph Chinyem alias Face of India were arrested onthe wake of the alleged gruesome murder.

Speaking with newsmen in Asaba yesterday (Saturday), the Police Spokesman in the state, DSP Charles Muka, said there will be no “sacred cow” with a view to investigating the alleged murder, adding that the law will take its course on the suspects.

But Counsel to the community, Barr. C. J. Enegide in a petition to the State Commissioner of Police, a copy made to newsmen in Asaba stated that the duo of Chief Stephen Mekwunye and Chief Joseph Chinyem who were alleged to have conspired with others to assassinate The Eleme of Obi-Yiama, Chief Amenaghanwon Uti Chinyem have also continued to walk tall in the streets to lay claims to freedom.

He said that, “The duo (aforesaid) and their defence counsel filed bail applications at the High Court of Justice Agbor in charge No: AG/36C/M/2011: STATE vs Chief Stephen Mokwuye and AG/6/C/M/2011: Commissioner of Police vs Chief Joseph Chinyem and further conspired with some allegedly gullible medical practitioners under the employment of Delta State Hospital Management Board, Agbor with the assistance of one Dr. C.O.Uzor to allegedly procure “fraudulent” medical reports in justification of their feigned serious medical condition in order to deceive the presiding Judge into erroneously granting their said application for bail.

According to the petitioner: “The fraudulent strategy had earlier influenced the presiding judge into granting bail to the said Chief Stephen Mokwuye who have now returned to embolden and re-organize his gang of dissidents in Obi-Yiama Community to walk tall”.
