Edo PDP Criticize Oshiomhole Over Retention Of Transition Committees For LG’s

Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as illegal and unconstitutional the delay in conducting election into local government Councils in the state yesterday called for the immediate dissolution of the 18 LG’s.

The party while maintaining that the continued use of transition Committee was unacceptable, also expressed displeasure over the recent reduction of school fees in the state-owned Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma by the Governor, adding that “what the Governor recently announced as palliatives for secondary schools was just the actual implementation of the UBE law which he has failed to implement since he entered office”.

While answering questions in a TV programme recently in Benin City, Oshiomhole explained that it had been difficult for his administration to conduct elections into the 18 local government councils because he found out that members of the State Independent National Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) were mainly card carrying members of the PDP.

Besides, he argued that the PDP allegation against him was unfair since the law which made provision for Caretaker Committees was passed by the PDP-dominated House of Assembly before he became Governor.
