Kano Bombings: Fuel Subsidy Panel Sits Today

The ad-hoc investigative panel of the House of Representatives into the management of subsidy funds failed to sit yesterday because of the absence of members who were away to Kano State following Friday’s multiple bomb blasts.

Some agencies who had been billed to make presentations showed up at the venue of the hearing at the National Assembly and were asked to come back today.

Prominent among the agencies were the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) represented by its Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Ministry of Petroleum represented by the Minister, Diezani Alison- Madueke, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) among others.

The development did not come as a surprise considering the fact that the chairman of the committee, Hon Farouk Lawan is from that State.

Last week, the TUC and NLC had appealed to the committee to give it more time to allow it to consult and reach a conclusion on the management of funds relating to subsidy.
