All accounts of the Bayelsa Government have been frozen in the aftermath of the sacking of Gov. Timipre Sylva by the Supreme Court on? Friday.
An official source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa on Wednesday that Acting Gov. Nestor Binabo gave the directive on Monday vide letters to banks operating the state government's accounts.
According to the source, the action is to enable Binabo to have a clear picture of the account balances as at Friday when he took over as chief executive.
The source also said that the action would enable the acting governor to give account of his stewardship on leaving office.
Letters were said to have been dispatched to the various commercial banks in the state on Monday to ensure compliance with Binabo's directives.
The development, NAN learnt, had delayed the payment of civil servants' salaries for January 2012.
A worker, who did not want his name mentioned, told NAN that he had yet to pay his children's school fees for the second term, pointing out that they were under threat of being driven away by the school authorities.
“You know these are private schools and the proprietors will not understand the logjam in the state,'' he said, adding that the children would stop going to school if the trend continued.
The parent said he could no longer afford transport fares and feeding his family had become a problem.
